Emily,

you make a true point.
In essence, the poem is about seeing what is real,
finding the depth of that, and understanding it is richer than the fantasy.

Sometimes it takes time to learn about life.

What we failed to see, becomes another layer of loss.
Once we realise it had been there.

Perhaps the task then, is to allow the grief from the past, and still open to the present,
until we have caught up with ourselves in time.

I think it would be good to cut there - I like it better, but I do like “slanted places of other.” What about putting it in place of “in these out of the way places” Slanted places of other if more descriptive I think……….
